I bring two worlds together - a classic craftsman's workshop and the fast-moving space of digital technology. For thirteen years I worked with wood, where a mistake means ruining material you will never get back. Now I work with interfaces, and there a mistake costs someone's time. Honestly, the two are less different than they look, because in both cases you first have to understand how the thing is put together, and only then set to work.

My road began in Kurzeme - I was born and raised in Saldus. That is where my first creative instincts took shape, along with an interest in aesthetics, proportion and detail. Then came four years in Riga, from 2004, training as a period furniture modeller and learning to read form, proportion and the era a piece belongs to. I have stayed in Riga ever since - it was here that I grew, in time, from modeller into a restorer of antique furniture.

Restoration has never been just a profession to me - in it, respect for the past meets the wish to give an object one more life. The best moment is always the one where you can see the same object before and after. As senior master I took on the most demanding work, and more than five hundred pieces passed through my hands: Biedermeier secretaires, oak sideboards and a great deal else. The craft teaches patience and care, and there is no way to hurry that, because one wrong move on a hundred-year-old part can be beyond repair.

But times change, and I change with them. The world of technology has fascinated me for a long time - what it makes possible, and the fact that it runs on logic you can follow. Why one interface makes sense at a glance, for instance, while another sends you hunting. In 2025 I enrolled at university to study computer science and specialise in programming engineering. From the outside it probably looks like a sharp turn, but to me it was simply the next step in the same direction.

In my own time I take photographs, and have done for five years now - it keeps my eye in outside of work. I'm drawn to travel and to cultures I don't know yet, I'm happy to spend a day on a long walk or a hike in the mountains, and just as happy walking an unfamiliar city and studying its architecture. And of course there's football - that's a chapter of its own.

Right now I'm continuing my studies in IT. The site you're reading I drew in Figma - a program used for designing interfaces - and then coded myself, from the first sketch to a published page. This is already the second version; I built the first one only to work out, in time, how far it was from what I actually wanted. There will probably be a third.
